I read two volumes of the Grand Blue manga and hated it. The characters suck, yes (particularly every male character). As does the comedy.

Book 10 not having a real climax might be its biggest sin. At least book 8 tries to have something.

Shadoubt starts okay and then it just gets worse and worse I don't like it at all. BtB good as ever.

D4 doesn't really do much for me. Partners isn't thrilling either, but it's a little more interesting.

Yoru is quite nice. Sailing songs can be good. Take Control is amazing in-game, but I don't like it nearly as much on its own. Still good at least. Could go either way on this one.

Wow, a person who doesn't rank 10 last! Very nice. New Spring is solid, but I feel like it's mostly worldbuilding (though it does have a couple cool scenes).

Final Fantasy 1 - 5/10. Does its job, neither good nor bad.

They announced a new Mana game last year. They also remade Secret of Mana, remade Trials of Mana, released a collection, and did a remaster for Legend of Mana. I'd certainly say they have the balls to 'do something' with the series.

A step down from the first game but still with some entertaining parts.

The Demon Girl Next Door S2 - Hell yeah what a great S2. Every episode had fun stuff going on, the pace is a mile a minute so there's tons of laughs, and the characters get closer than ever. I wasn't a huge fan of the two new additions to the main cast, but they had some pretty funny scenes, so they weren't a total loss. Shamiko and Momo both so great.

Miss Shachiku and the Little Baby Ghost - Finally a bad show! This was cute at times with the loli ghosts, but the MC sucks. Everything to do with the workplace in this series is awful, and then at the end we get the revelation that her pay is shit despite her working 18 hours a day. Ugh. Without that, the show would've been solid, though maybe still not great - it could be pretty slow at times.

Birdie Wing - Hell yeah what a great S1. Eve and Aoi are awesome whenever they're together, and the villains were generally enjoyable too. I love that their mentors are just Amuro and Char - the Namco Bandai promotion in here is generally hilarious. The golf is consistently entertaining, too. The only low point is the stuff with Eve's 'family' - her situation just isn't very interesting to me compared to the golf stuff. Thankfully that's dealt with partway through the season, and the rest is all good. Shame it just ends in the middle of things, though. Guess there must've been production difficulties or delays for some reason.

And they're unfinished, but I might as well finish this all up now.

Komi Can't Communicate S2 - Basically like S1 but maybe a little more consistent... I ended up liking it about the same though, since the premise kinda gets old over time. Still not nearly as good as Hitori Bocchi. Carried by fantastic visuals and directing.

Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie - Shoulda dropped this shit early. Starts bad and stays bad. Izumi is a garbage-tier protagonist with nothing interesting about him, and sadly, Shikimori is just a cutie 90% of the time. Their 'relationship' barely has anything going on, too. Fie on everyone who hyped this up.

I enjoyed everything from Komi up. Pretty good season!

Flow's nice and chill in a good way. Dance is good at first, but is way repetitive. Does not need to be 5 minutes.

Ra Melody's never done much for me. Beat Eat is excellent. Named like a Mad Rat song, heh.

Wow Tree of Life sounds kinda like a Xenoblade X song. I like this style more than most Poke songs. Intuition feels like it should be my type of song but it's not really hitting for me.

For various reasons I listened to HUG both last night and today, but I like it much less today for whatever reason. Battle 2 is good stuff.

Wicked Child is fun enough, though it isn't on the level of the truly classic CV songs. Contrattacco goes a few too many places. Still solid and interesting though.

Oh hey I figured Battle with the Devil was Mitsuda. Has a very CC sound to it. Tachi reminds me of Steins;Gate music.

The best part is the presentation during sidequests being really good... but I don't think the actual story is particularly good! Some people swear by the ending or whatever, but it didn't do anything for me.

Im (presumably) about halfway through Nirvana Initiative now and Im really liking it so far. Most notably theyve changed the somnia so that theres actually logic behind what youre supposed to do to progress (rather than the almost random guessing with some timie strategy that the original had).

Orange has worked on over 100 series, varying greatly in quality. I believe they still work on quite a few nowadays (were you a fan of Godzilla Singular Point? That's one of their more recent shows).

It's interesting, I recently discovered that a lot of when you see a studio's name on a series it's just advertising. For example, Ya Boy Kongming was over 90% done by DR Movie, with PA Works barely touching it. DR Movie also did the entirety of Kaiji season 2, even though Madhouse was credited as the studio for it.

Crocus is the version of Hayato Asano I'm not quite as into. Limitless is a good groove. Kinda feels based on Hamauzu's style of music, though not the same of course.

gotta believe is some good Kajiura. I feel like it should be fuller though? Like it needs more instruments or something? It's a little hollow. Geometric Dance is good too. Could go either way on this one.

I thought Renata was pretty cool when I heard it, but it's not like it ever stood a chance against LL... I like every song today!

Thoroughly entertaining from start to finish.

In the Heart of Kunoichi Tsubaki - Definitely surpassed my expectations. First episode wasn't the best, but I liked it a lot when it wasn't all 'omg a man' jokes. The huge cast worked well, and there were fun interactions between many of them. The action was also surprisingly good. I thought it'd be perfunctory, but we get some genuinely cool fights, and the last episode in particular looked great. Good stuff.

Deaimon - Nice show from start to finish. Itsuka's the highlight, and the show's always good when it's focusing on her... which is why it's a shame they didn't focus on her more. The first 6 or 7 episodes all introduce new focus characters, and while they're never bad, they're not as good as the mains. I also liked Kanoko, but it felt like she should've gotten back together with Nagomu during the show - there's not really any obstacles between them, and we oddly don't get much of a picture of Nagomu's romantic feelings for her (though he was a good character). Consistently good show that should've been better imo.

Raiden V has some real good music. Final Smile kinda all blurs into itself for me.

Two JP vocal songs in a row huh. This one's a bit better, but didn't we have it in a previous year? Not sure we needed it again... I wish Tenement went more places. It's very good in parts, but it feels like more climax would be nice.

Jeepers more JP vocals in match 3. Shame none of these connect with me. Magus always good stuff. Pretty short tho.

I believe it has unlimited backtracking. I've seen people call it a Metroidvania.

It has one moderate length tournament arc and one long tournament arc, I believe. Together, they take up about half the show.

Early Touhou huh. It's okay. Daredevil isn't my favorite Ace Combat but it's still good.

Shevat sounds like a cool CT song. Late Night Field is cool in the game, but it's not something I want to listen to on its own.

Lucid Nightmare's a fun rhythm game song, though I wish it had a bit more to it. Mixed Melody's solid, and gets better as it goes.

None of the older movies are necessary watching, but most of them are okay. Battle of Gods and Resurrection F are good, but they also do a retelling of both are arcs in Dragon Ball Super, so if you plan on continuing there, you can potentially skip those as well (there are some minor plot differences between the movies and anime, but they're close enough).

Most people do consider the Super versions to be worse, from what I've heard.

Never been a big fan of FFT music. This is okay I suppose. Heart of Concrete's more my style, not that it's a huge standout imo.

I feel like I've seen a bunch of names for this EO song. It's in the EO style I like and it's a good example of that style. Chain's Eyes has some cool sounds.

Aquatic Ambiance has always been killer. Love that relaxing groove. Frantic Aspic's the first Splatoon song I've liked in a while! It's not the only good one, but the others in this contest haven't appealed to me.

Speaking of DBZ, I know we're almost done with the show itself, but there are several movies. Are any of them worth watching?

Battle of Gods and Resurrection F are kind of sequels to it, and are solid, particularly the first. Not sure about the older movies.

Does it have a free next gen upgrade?

FMAB cut content that was in the original manga. I don't think the Hughes stuff in FMA classic was filler. Of course, it's an improvement either way, since Hughes was a terrible character in both versions...

Some series are pretty great at adding filler to develop stuff more, but it's tough to balance, since it can hurt pacing a lot. 90% of the DBZ filler is for the worse, I think. For me, Sailor Moon Crystal suffered from being an ugly show rather than cutting content, I think. I only ended up watching half a dozen episodes before I dropped it.

Like a Japanese live action movie/TV series? Those are a dime a dozen for this sorta thing...
